Autumn Update
18-10-2026

We hope you had a wonderful autumn break and feel well rested! TopoMania wasn't sitting still during the holidays: we performed a server update and gave the website a fresh new look.
We hope you like the changes and that it helps you practice your geography even better! Have fun!
Custom Coordinates
03-05-2023

TopoMania boasts an extensive database containing cities, countries, regions, bodies of water, mountains, and more. Most everything you need for your geography lessons is already there. But if you ever find that a specific place is missing, you can now add your own custom coordinates!
Go to the "My TopoMania" menu and click on "Coordinates". Enter a name, latitude, and longitude, and you will be able to use your custom coordinate in your own maps. The coordinate will only be visible to your account.
Tips for de Volkskrant
19-10-2022
Much has already been said and written about it, but it's simply too good for TopoMania to pass up!
In the Dutch national newspaper de Volkskrant on Saturday, October 15, 2022, a map of the Netherlands was published with the provinces of Friesland and Groningen accidentally swapped.
How that could happen remains a mystery. One thing is certain: the editor clearly didn't use TopoMania in school! ;-)
So here are a few tips and practice links for de Volkskrant to master the Dutch provinces.
First of all, TopoMania's oldest and most popular map, The Provinces of the Netherlands:
Geography of the Provinces of the Netherlands
Also very popular: Provinces and Capitals
Geography of the Provinces and Capitals of the Netherlands
Perhaps also useful: a map of the Northern Netherlands
Geography of Northern Netherlands
And as a bonus: a historical map of proposed 'Super-provinces' (these provinces don't actually exist, dear Volkskrant!)
Well, that should provide plenty of study material before next Saturday's edition. Happy practicing!
Group Accounts
18-08-2021

School accounts are now called Group Accounts. This new name better reflects what school accounts on TopoMania have always been: accounts for managing groups.
A group account works exactly the same as the former school account; only the name has changed.
Here is a brief recap of what a group account (formerly school account) offers:
- A Group Account allows you to add group members, who are other TopoMania users.
- You can add members by sharing an invitation code with them. Your group page has a link where users can enter this code to join.
- You can create exams for your members and view and export their results
- You can enter your group into the group highscores leaderboard.
For more detailed information, read here: Group Accounts
Group Highscores
If you would like your group to appear in the Group Highscores list, check the "Show in Group Highscores" box on your profile page and provide a group name and city (this checkbox is already enabled for existing school accounts).
All highscores achieved by group members on maps belonging to the group are tallied together on a leaderboard. It's a wonderful way to motivate your students to practice the maps even more often!
